Malbec is a versatile red variety with an intense red color, pronounced violet and blueish hues, aromas that evoke fruits of the forest, and smooth, rounded tannins. The variety is native to Cahors, located in southwestern France, and this variety’s first plantations in South American were in Chile and date back to the 19th century. Because it comes from cooler regions, Chilean Malbec is typically a fresh and elegant wine. Its tannins tend to be smooth and silky, and with large amounts of juicy fruit on the palate. It is full-bodied with a lush texture, and can be vinified alone or used in blends. It is the perfect wine to be paired with grilled meats.
