Osorno Valley

The Osorno Valley has traditionally been a region for the production of livestock and dairy, with virgin soils of volcanic origin. Vines were planted for the first time in 2000 as an experiment, and ever since then, the plantations have been increasing in number. The valley features a high amount of precipitation that falls year round, a temperature regime that tends to be cold, an annual average temperature that reaches up to 10 °C (50 °F), and deep, stratified, volcanic soils. The Osorno Valley has emerged among cool-climate valleys and has displayed excellent results in Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Riesling. Up until now, the vineyards are located close to Lake Ranco and the Río Bueno Valley. The resulting wines have great mineral character, they are elegant and intense, and display a refreshing acidity with a lower alcohol content. High-quality sparkling wines are also being developed in this region.
