2011 Wines of Chile Annual Trade Tasting

att-2011-iwc-award-3-500The WoC Annual Trade Tasting was held on Wednesday 7th September at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London.

This event is always the first generic tasting after the summer break, and the Chileans kicked off the new season of tastings in style. With well over 80 wineries under one roof, from Chile’s global brands to the smaller, pequeñas estates, this was one of our busiest Annual Tastings ever for sheer diversity.

Michael Cox, Director - Europe Wines of Chile said, “We have had a tremendous show of strength from the wineries again this year. We’ve also had a great turn out from key buyers and some good business has been done today. Feedback from a number of guests suggests that Chile is still pushing the right buttons at all levels and perhaps most interestingly for us, with the more premium, ‘terroir’ wines.”

In addition to the wineries who poured their latest wines at the tasting, WoC organised 3 Focus Tastings:

2011 Award Winners: A selection of gold and trophy winners from key wine competitions in 2011

Sensational Syrah: A tasting to show the trade and press the huge potential for Syrah in Chile.

Fair Trade: Chile takes social and environmental responsibilities very seriously, and as such the Fair Trade concept is very important. Kate Lewis from the Fairtrade Foundation was on hand throughout the day to answer any questions and present a range of Fairtrade wines from Chile.

For the first time ever, the tasting catalogue and exhibitor signage included a QR code for each winery linking guests immediately to their website or Annual Tasting information. WoC also arranged for New Media experts, Hansell Design, to be on hand to guide wineries and guests through the concept of QR codes and show them how they could make QR codes work for them.
