23 wineries flew in to exhibit at the new Chile Pavilion and approximately 60 more were present at the Excel Exhibition Centre with their importers or on their own stands.
The new, bold and modern Wines of Chile pavilion was in two imposing blocks and included an area for focus tastings featuring Chile’s distinctive Carmenere wines and a selection of Trophy & Gold Medal winners from the 2011 Annual Wines of Chile Awards.
The focus tasting area on the Wines of Chile stand was well attended and visitors were able to sample a range of 40 different Carmenere wines and match the distinctive flavours with 3 sauces from London’s top Indian restaurant, Benares. This innovative hands-on approach brought the concept of ‘Carmenere Made for Curry’ to life at the trade fair and it proved to be very popular and successful.
Michael Cox, European Director for Wines of Chile said, “In a tough economic environment, Chile put on a great show of support for the London Wine Fair, not only on the Pavilion, but throughout the hall at ExCel. This is one of the key opportunities in the year to show just how much Chile has to offer any wine list or portfolio ,and I think this year the quality and diversity on show was the best yet.”
