About Chile

Chile is a prosperous and forward-thinking country with a strong economy and numerous free trade agreements with Bolivia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Central America, China, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, the European Union, Iceland, India, Japan, Liechtenstein, Mercosur, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, the United States, and Venezuela. More than 76% of all Chilean trade is conducted with these countries, which account for 87% of world GDP.

As a result of decades of sustained growth, Chile enjoys a diverse economy based on mining, forestry, agriculture, fishing, tourism…and wine, of course!

Chile has something special. More than 4,300 km (2,695 mi) long and an average of just 177 km (110 mi) wide, the country is rich in geographic and climatic diversity rarely found in a single country.

Just imagine a people who are at once inspired by the heritage of their ancient cultures, the Atacama Desert (the driest in the world), a fertile Central Valley, a Lake District the length of Sweden, the wilds of Patagonia, and the ice-filled wonders of Antarctica all squeezed into a narrow strip between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
