The history of wine-growing in Chile began with the conquest of South America by the Spanish conquistadores 500 years ago. In places where they had originally been searching for gold treasures, the conquistadores soon began cultivating wine; firstly, for their own consumption and secondly, because they needed ceremonial wine for their religious services. Thus, the first vineyards developed especially in the vicinity of religious centers.

Today, Chile is home to a generation of vintners, enologists and entrepreneurs who are passionately developing exceptional wines. Therefore, Chile counts as one of the most innovative wine-growing countries in the world.
