England’s Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall, visited the Viñedos Emiliana winery in the Casablanca Valley as part of their recent Chilean tour.

The royal couple are long-time supporters of organic agriculture and are currently promoting sustainable development, ecological issues, and raising awareness on climate change.

They chose to visit Viñedos Emiliana for its dedication to environmental work and because with 1200 hectares of organic vineyards (600 IMO-certified, 600 in transition), it is the world leader in organic and biodynamic production.

During the visit, Emiliana’s chief winemaker Alvaro Espinoza led the Duchess in a tasting of wines made from organically grown grapes, while the Prince met privately with Rafael and José Guilisasti of Emiliana, Miguel Elissalt, President of the Organic Association of Chile, and representatives from some of the country’s leading organic producers, such as Olave (olive oil), Greenvic (fresh fruit for export), Surfrut (dried fruits), Bioinvest (vegetables), Cambiaso Hermanos (organic herbal teas), Coesam (rose hip products), Index Salus (organic tea), and Hortifrut (berries). The meeting was arranged to discuss the development and importance of organic agriculture in Chile and the world.
