Moderate steady consumption of red wine is believed to be good for one's heart. The antioxidants in wine may account for a protective effect on the vascular system. A report several years ago suggested that Chilean red wine was especially potent because of the country's high altitude vineyards.

Targeting bars, pubs, restaurants and sommeliers, Wine+ was billed as a 'hybrid of an exhibition, tasting and business clinic with a key focus on increasing profit through wine sales.'

Even when a wine is labelled as a single grape wine EU labelling law allows for the wine to be blended with another grape up to a percentage 15 pc. Wines from Chile are often sold as single varietals, but few people realise these wines are often blends. An example of this is syrah being added to cabernet. This practice allows winemakers a margin of creativity.

This is all due to the discovery of San Antonio and the 2006 vintage. Chilean's are exploiting the realisation that the distance from the sea is more important than latitude.
