Wine Access: ‘Winning Wines from Chile’

Logo Wine Access

Pssst-here’s a hot tip for you! The June-July issue of  Canadian wine magazine Wine Access will feature a special article on Chile and Chilean wines. No need to keep it a secret; they leaked the news to us themselves and were even kind enough to grant us permission to re-publish the double piece and tasting notes here.

It starts with two pages of tasting notes by Anthony Gismondi, David Lawrason, Sid Cross, John Szabo, and Bill Zacharkiw, all of whom were here in January as judges for the 7th Annual Wines of Chile Awards competition. Their for highly recommended wines range from high-end Maipo Valley Cabernets, to red blends from Colchagua, to Chardonnays from Limarí and San Antonio (Leyda), to a Carmenere from Colchagua, and even a couple biodynamic wines, all of excellent value in a variety of price points.

Ah, value, Chile’s banner of pride. Anthony Gismondi–who calls ‘em as he sees ‘em–has a word or two to say about that too. He lays it on the line and points to what Chile is definitely doing right and what he sees as the direction to aim toward for the future. Any way we look at it, though, it’s the consumer who wins.
