Chilean Earthquake: Wine Industry Thankful for International Support

woc-logoMonday, March 1, 2010.

We at Wines of Chile would like to thank everyone around the world for the generous and sincere outpouring of concern, support, and offers of help that we have received since Saturday morning’s earthquake.

Wines of Chile is currently working with the wineries around the country to obtain a clear picture of the state of the industry.

We would like to express our deepest sympathy and support to the members of the extended Chilean wine family that may have been affected by this tragic earthquake. Despite the seriousness of the recent events, the Chilean wine industry stands united and confident in our ability to deal with the challenges that this unfortunate natural disaster has presented us.

Again, we would like to thank you all for your support and good wishes.

We at Wine & Food Week in Houston, Texas would welcome the opportunity to do anything we can to support the wines of Chile at our upcoming festival in June. We are one of the top ten destination wine events in the USA and are happy to help in any way. Just say it and we’ll try to make it happen. Give our best to our Chilean wine friends and know that they are in our prayers and we’re in action in any way to make things better in your world. Constance McDerby, Founder and Producer

Thank you everyone for the support! It should also be pointed out that many areas are still open for wine tourism, especially around Santiago (Maipo Valley), Valparaíso (Casablanca and San Antonio Valleys), and all areas to the north (Aconcagua, Limarí, and Elqui).

    Dear friends from Chile:

Lori Tieszen from Wines of Chile has given us updates on our friends–especially those in the Maule and Bio Bio regions. Thankfully you and your families escaped the worse. Please know you and your countrymen have the thoughts and prayers of those of us who experienced your hospitality last fall–and look forward to doing so again.
