Chilean Sauvignon Blanc shines bright in the World Sauvignon Competition

Chile's Sauvignon Blanc was a leading light in the world competition for the variety, held in Spain in March.

Competing against Sauvignon Blanc from around the world, in wine countries both new and old, Chile's wine stood out as 15 wines gained an award.

Five of Chile's wines took home the coveted gold award:

  • William Cole Columbine Special Reserve 2015, Viña El Rosal, Valle de Casablanca
  • Casa Silva Reserva Cuvée Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Viña Casa Silva, Valle de Colchagua
  • Santa Ema Select Terroir Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Vinos Santa Ema, Valle del Maipo
  • Casa Marin Sauvignon Gris Estero Vineyard 2015, Viña Casa Marín,Valle de San Antonio
  • Cánepa Famiglia Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Cánepa, Valle Central

And 10 other Sauvignon Blancs were awarded Silver:

  • Valdivieso Winemaker Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Viña Valdivieso, Valle de Aconcagua
  • Aresti Trisquel Series Sauvignon Blanc Hualañé Costa 2015, Viña Aresti, Valle de Curicó
  • Miguel Torres Cordillera, Sauvignon Blanc 2015,Viña Miguel Torres, Valle de Elqui
  • Chocalan, Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Viña Choacalan, Valle del Maipo
  • Aresti Trisquel Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Viña Aresti, Valle de San Antonio
  • Santa Ema Amplus Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Viña Santa Ema, Valle de San Antonio
  • Carta Vieja, Aves del Sur, Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Viña Carta Vieja, Valle Central

This year was the seventh edition of the awards, and Sauvignon Blancs from 26 countries competed. All the wines were tasted blind by 73 judges over the course of the competition. You can find out more here.
