Syrah was the wine of choice for the Palmares competition held at La Grande Dégustation de Montréal last week, and Chile triumphed with four wines in the Top 10 and one taking the top title of the competition.
The Great Wine Capitals 2017 Awards were announced earlier this month in Chile's international wine capital, Casablanca and Valparaiso, with several winners. The winning restaurant in the wine region went on to win the international trophy on 10 November.
The warming spice and berry notes of Carmenère couldn’t be more appropriate for a November wine. Not only does it match the autumnal month in style, but Carmenère Day also falls on November 24th. Carmenère Day commemorates the day that Carmenère was first discovered in Chile, and rediscovered in the world, in 1994.
Chile has overtaken South Africa to claim fifth best selling wine origin in the UK.
