As the Chilean wine industry continues to cross new borders and attract broader audiences, the nation’s largest winery has made the move to consolidate sales and promotional operations by staffing an office in South Africa.

Chilean wine exports broke records in 2011 with 8.9 percent growth over the previous year, reaching US$1.69 billion in sales. Auspicious figures aside, however, the German market continues to present a challenge when it comes to positioning Chilean wine. Chile’s participation in Prowein and the launch of the promotional Chilean wine tour will therefore be key factors for the Andean nation’s success.

For the first time ever Chile has won the international competition that highlights the world’s best culinary books. The award ceremony was held at the Theatre Les Folies Bergere in Paris and the book, Gourmet Patagonia’s “Patagonia Cuisine,” received the award for the best culinary book of the year at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.
