Chile gets a personality

The climax to the International Wine Challenge Awards Dinner in London on 12th September 2007 was the announcement of the international wine trade’s Personality of the Year. It was awarded to Chile’s very own Alvaro Espinoza.

Alvaro Espinoza, arguably Chile’s most famous winemaker, has been one of the world’s leading experts on organic and bio-dynamic viticulture and his services are much in demand in Chile.

Not only does Alvaro run his own bio-dynamic estate called Antiyal in the Maipo Valley, but he is also responsible for running the hugely successful Emiliana Organicos estate in the heart of Colchagua – producers of the multi-award winning COYAM – as well as consulting for a number of other high profile wineries.
Commenting on the Award, Wines of Chile’s UK Director Michael Cox said “Alvaro is a perfect choice for Personality of the Year. His charm, charisma, and winemaking flair combine to represent all that is modern and natural in today’s Chilean wine scene, and we congratulate him.”
Chile has been enjoying unparalleled export success in 2007 with sales in the 12 months to July 07 exceeding US$ 1 billion, 27% ahead of 2006. In the UK – Chile’s premier market – exports have broken through the 10 million case (equiv 9 ltr) barrier for the first time – a 24% increase over 2006.
