Mexico get the scoop on Chilean wine with Deby Beard

After a week’s visit to Chile to judge the Annual Wines of Chile Awards, one of Mexico’s most influential wine journalists Deby Beard returned to give Mexico the scoop on what makes Chilean wine taste so good. Broadcasting in Red FM, Deby spoke about the awards event and tasting hundreds of wines to pick the top producers for the year.

While she was here at the end of November, Deby took part in the three day professional tasting with the other 11 international judges to select the different medal and trophy winners. As well as the tasting, the judges also attended numerous dinners, lunches and presentations to try out many of the country’s variety of wines in a more relaxed setting and on her last day in Chile Deby went to visit some wineries, Vina San Esteban and Vina Errazuriz, in the Aconcagua region.

Her visit to Chile gave her a great insight to the increasing variety of Chilean wine. “Chile is so extensive in its wine regions and the vineyards are so different from each other,” she said. “I like that Chilean wine has this versatility in grapes. It used to be just Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere, but now Chile has so many varieties. And of course, I love that the quality and price are so good relative to each other.”
