Chile’s increase in sparkling wine production was highlighted in the international media recently with an in-depth feature in Meiningers Wine Business Magazine. Focusing on the history of sparkling wine production, which stretches as far back as 1879 from Valdivieso winery, the article takes into account the main players in the recent trend which is seeing Chilean bubbles pop up on wine store shelves across the globe.
With a steady increase over the years of sparkling wine production, the largest markets for Chilean sparkling wine last year were Japan, Venezuela and the UK. Plans are already in the pipeline to create a bigger marketing effort to let the world know about the great bubbles being produced in the country.
“Our goal is to strengthen the category with a unique D.O. that reflects our diversity and identity,” says WOC Managing Director Claudio Cilveti. “To achieve this we are working as a committee to establish a common strategy that allows us to become world class sparkling wine producers and increase our exports.”
