As the name suggests, the Bacchus wine tasting in Madrid, Spain, is a wine competition with such high quality wines that they would even tempt the Gods. With an elite panel of judges comprising Masters of Wine, sommeliers, journalists and winemakers, the week long tasting (15 – 19 March) showcased wines from across the world, although with a strong focus on Spanish wines.
This year for the first time, Europe Area Manager for Wines of Chile Alvaro Arriagada was invited to attend the event and represent Chile’s wine community in the tasting.
Eight ‘Gran Bacchus de Oro’ medals were awarded for the most outstanding wines in the competition which included wines from Spain, Portugal and France, and a Uruguayan wine also took a top medal. It’s clear that the judges already enjoyed a flavour of Southern Cone wines and hopefully next year more Chilean wineries will participate in the tasting.
