Chile’s recent success at the Decanter World Wide Wine Awards (DWWA) is being tangibly expressed in up to 28 countries with Decanter’s Global Tastings program.

Beginning on September 29 and continuing into October, the program gives wine lovers the unique opportunity to taste Decanter winners at more than 60 venues around the globe.

The event, which highlights a selection of the awarded wines in various prize categories, represents a partnership between Decanter and highly-regarded wine-dispensing technology company Enomatic.

In a Decanter news article, publishing director Sarah Kemp notes, “Our Global Tastings program couldn’t be a better way of letting people taste the wines that our experts have considered to be really exceptional and hopefully allowing them to broaden their knowledge and enjoyment of wine on a global scale.”

Chilean wineries performed exceptionally well in the competition, with 60% of entries receiving prizes. Overall, Chile brought home an impressive five international trophies, along with six gold medals, and numerous silver and bronze medals and commendations.

The portion of the Global Tastings program taking place in Chile showcases eight winning wines at Bocanáriz wine bar in Santiago.

“We are proud to include the Chilean DWWA winners among our selection of wines,” Bocanáriz proprietor Katherine Hidalgo tells Wines of Chile.

Furthermore, explains Hidalgo, “Our clients can ask to taste [the wines], drink by the glass, or order by the bottle.”

Exemplifying the partnership between Decanter and Enomatic, Chile’s venue for the Global Tastings touts four Enomatic machines – more than any other location in Chile – ensuring the quality and service of the wines from bottle to table.

Under this standard of excellence, Bocanáriz offers the following selection of Chilean DWWA winners on its menu, and the restaurant’s skilled and knowledgeable sommeliers are prepared to offer ideal food pairing advice for each:

  • Viña La Reserva de Caliboro, Erasmo, Maule Valley 2006 (Bronze medal)
  • Montes, Limited Selection Sauvignon Blanc, Leyda 2010 (Commended)
  • Leyda, Single Vineyard Riesling Neblina, Leyda 2011 (Bronze medal)
  • Casa Silva, Gran Reserva Carmenere Los Lingues, Colchagua Valley 2010 (Commended)
  • Matetic Vineyards, Coastal Sauvignon Blanc EQ, Casablanca Valley 2011 (Bronze medal)
  • Emiliana, Coyam, Colchagua Valley 2009 Chile (Bronze medal)
  • Tamaya, Reserva Carmenere, Limari Valley 2010 Chile (Bronze medal)
  • Morandé, Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon, Maipó Valley 2010 Chile (Commended)

Additional Global Tastings venues and featured wines are listed on Decanter’s website via an interactive world map.

“Each day, Chile makes more interesting wines,” notes Hidalgo. “And our mission is to display the best that Chile is making, and the trends of the Chilean wine industry.”

With this special global publicity, Chile’s prime wines are being widely tasted and enjoyed, enhancing the country’s already-positive reputation with wine lovers around the world.

As T.J. and Hadley Douglas tell Decanter, “…some bottles are like old friends, while the others are sure to become new favorites.”

And we’re sure many new friends and favorites will say “Chile” on the label, thanks to the Global Tastings program.
