Ten Chilean companies showcased diverse and innovative organic food products at “Fresh Ideas Organic Marketplace 2012,” that took place in a big tent in front of Marriot Hotel, Anaheim, California.
This year the Chilean food exhibit included a large assortment of Chilean organic wines and other exciting organic products, from maqui berry powders (fruit that grows in the southernmost part of Chile with strong antioxidants properties), pomegranate vitamin powders, to chocolate, fruit snacks, olive oil, berry vinegars and much more.Chile’s food industry exports have grown by 70% during the last five years. The South American country currently exports more than 30 organic products, ranging from fresh products to processed goods. The most important trading destinations are the United States and Europe.The main organic exports include fresh fruits (apples, kiwi fruit and berries), honey, medicinal herbs, fresh vegetables, wine, frozen and dehydrated products among others. The sophistication and high value added are the attributes that seduce the American market.
According to the Chilean Trade Commission, the USA is by far Chile´s top destination market for foods. During 2010 the USA purchased 23% of Chilean shipments worth USD 2.285,75 million, while between January and October 2011, USD 2.217,38 million were exported.
A privileged geography and climate and the compliance of strict phytosanitary and zoo-sanitary regulations, have turned Chile into a reliable global healthy food supplier, attributes that have contributed to Chile’s positioning on the international gastronomy scene.
