Everyone in Chile–and Chileans around the world–are ecstatic this morning as the national team just earned its second win in the 2010 World Cup!
Chileans loves: fútbol, football, soccer (choose one), especially this year! Chile’s 1-0 win over Honduras last week was its first World Cup win in 48 years (when it came in 3rd in the 1962 Cup hosted here in Chile) and the first ever outside Latin America.
The excitement at today’s triumph over Switzerland (also 1-0) will be pretty hard to beat. The streets are filled with people dressed in the national red-white-and blue colors, cheering, waving flags, blowing their horns (this will go on all day)… and now the country’s hopes are pinned on doing it again on Friday when they take on Spain (who lost to Switzerland, by the way)!
Help us celebrate- open a bottle of your favorite Chilean wine–make it a red wine–in keeping with the team colors!
And cross your fingers for Friday’s Match- Let’s see Carmenere triumph over Tempranillo! ¡Vamos Chile!
