Leading UK food and winewriter Fiona Beckett was here in Chile last week for the 13th World’s Best Sommelier Competition, but she didn’t spend all her time watching the 51 candidates run through their rigorous testing. She was doing some serious testing of her own. Among the wineries she visited was Casas del Bosque in Casablanca, and its restaurant Tanino, where she applauded the teamwork of chef Álvaro Larraguibel and winemaker Grant Phelps to come up with some seriously delicious pairings.
