Chile’s entire wine industry was shocked and saddened yesterday to hear of the tragic and untimely death of Diego García de la Huerta, 37, the manager and winemaker of Viña Sutil in the Colchagua Valley.
García de la Huerta, an experienced pilot, took off from La Serena with three friends, Felipe Eguiguren, Sebastián Pérez, and Ricardo Marín, on the morning of Monday, January 12, 2010. The small plane went down shortly thereafter for reasons as yet unknown and was discovered in La Cachina, 22 km inland from the coast. There were no survivors.
Diego García de la Huerta, who worked at Viña Sutil for 12 years, will be sorely missed in the Chilean winemaking community. We at Wines of Chile offer our sincerest condolences to his family and particularly to his wife, Pilar Rojas, and their three children.
Our condolences to his lovely family from the DeSoto, family here in Miami Florida ,USA. Mr,Diego Garcia will always be in our hearts. An angel is on the sky. May he rest on peace!!
Very sad news. Diego was a great guy, always friendly and a top personality of the Chilean wine industry.
I am deeply saddened to learn of this tragic death. From the very first time I visited the winery in 2003, and played an epic game of snooker with him at the La Playa Hotel, Diego has always been typically friendly and helpful and a real Chilean character. We will all miss him, and my prayers are with his family
Adios Diego, suerte a donde vas y gracias por haber compartido con nosotros parte de tu vida. Nuestras sinceras condolencias a tu familia, en particular a Pilar.

We lost a great guy and a very good professional .
Our condolences to his family from Brasil.
Diego will be always in our minds.
We are very shock by this news. Just one year ago we meet him in Colchagua, we were flying with him. We made a photo impression of the flight.
