We’ve been talking about Carmenere a lot here at Wines of Chile , and we have to thank www.vendimia.cl for taking the time to sort through the 268 Chilean wines that won awards at the International Wine & Spirits Challenge in London to discover that Chile’s signature grape is making its presence known in the international circuit.
Five Chilean Carmenere’s ranked among the top wines judged at the 40th version of the IWSC in April and will receive their awards at the annual banquet to be held at the London Guildhall on November 26.
The five front-running Carmenere’s in this year’s competition are:
Viña De Martino, 2007 Single Vineyard Alto de Piedras Carmenere (Maipo Valley), which really shined as it took home a Silver Medal, Best in Class, and the Trophy for Best Carmenere.
Congrats also go out to:
Ventisquero, 2007Yali Three Lagoons Carménère, Maipo Valley (Silver Medal)
VC Family Estates, 2008 Porta Reserva Carménère, Maipo Valley (Silver Medal)
Morandé 2007 Reserva Carménère (Bronze Medal)
Tarapacá, 2008 Gran Reserva Carménère (Bronze Medal)
