There’s a buzz in the air as the news beings to spread that a Chilean winery has appeared on Wine Enthusiast magazine’s list of nominations for its 10th Annual WineStar Awards.
Chile’s VSPT Wine Group (Viña San Pedro Tarapacá) is one of four candidates for the prestigious 2009 New World Winery of the Year award. The other three contenders are Bodega Catena Zapata (Argentina), d’Arenberg (Australia), Jackson-Triggs Vintners (Canada), and Yalumba (Australia).
The magazine’s November 2009 edition will publish a brief description of all the nominees, and the winners will be announced in the December edition.
The awards will be presented in a gala event on January 25, 2010 in the New York Public Library.
The VSPT group was formed last year when the Chilean wineries San Pedro and Tarapacá. The new alliance combines their respective holdings and therefore includes eight Chilean wineries (San Pedro, Tarapacá, Santa Helena, Misiones de Rengo, Altaïr, Viña Mar, Casa Rivas, and Leyda) and two in Argentina(Finca La Celia and Bodega Tamarí). The group is now the second largest exporter of bottled Chilean wine.
Chile’s Casa Lapostolle was the 2008 New World Winery of the World.
