We recently reported that Chile is yet again in the running for one of the coveted WineStar Awards (see VSPT Wine Group nominated for Wine Enthusiast Winery of the Year Award). It turns out that team at VSPT will not be the only ones at a Chilean winery crossing their fingers and holding their breath when the winners are announced in the December 2009 edition of Wine Enthusiast.
José Manuel Ortega of the O. Fournier Group is also on the list as one of the top contenders for the 2009 Innovator of the Year Award. He is the only non-US candidate on the list that includes Jim Koch of Boston-based Samuel Adams Beer, Audrey Saunders of the Pegu Club in New York, Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV in New Jersey, and the Wine Group, also of Boston.
José Manuel founded the O. Fournier Group in 2000 with the objective of forming wineries in both Old and New World wine regions. They currently have wineries in Chile (San Antonio and Maule), Spain (Ribera del Duero), and Argentina (Mendoza).
The magazine’s November 2009 edition will publish a brief description of all the nominees, and the winners will be announced in the December edition.
The awards will be presented in a gala event on January 25, 2010 in the New York Public Library.
