Good point Michael... So how's this Old World Goliath-Dad going to react at ProWein? Will they take a "ignore them and they'll go away" approach? Or come back with some new strategies of their own? They seem to be keeping pretty mum about it so far!

The analogy of 'David & Goliath' is an interesting one. One glance at some export and/or sales stats relating to many key EU markets (especially UK) would indicate that 'David' - the so called New World - has gone through the growing pains is now taller than 'Goliath'. Just as a father has trouble reacting when his son outgrows him, the Old World is in a quandry!

Sizzle without the steak... good one...
The idea is really great, now we need to push them to tell us what it's all about!
Could that be their angle? Create a "Mystery Buzz"? Get us all demanding news?

As you note, where's the buzz? Heck, where's the website? We wrote about it as being "the sizzle without the steak." Kind of sad. A great idea with unsure execution, at least at this point.

What's also been interesting is the lack of comment from the European wine producing countries. Is it that they haven't heard of it, are pretending they haven't heard of it, are just ignoring it because it doesn't relate to them, or are planning to do something about it when everyone has returned from holiday and they can schedule an extraordinary committee meeting on the subject?
