Casablanca / San Antonio / Leyda / Aconcagua Costa / Zapallar
It all began in the mid-1980s, when Casablanca was discovered to be a paradise for white varietals such as Chardonnay and later Sauvignon Blanc, as well as cold-tolerant reds such as Pinot Noir and Syrah. San Antonio followed suit in the late 1990s and farther north, Coastal Aconcagua and even Zapallar are now producing their first wines.
The low Coastal Mountains provide a protective barrier against the frigid cold of the Pacific Current, but allow brisk sea breezes to filter inland to cool the lands that are now planted to more than 4,000 hectares of noble vines. The result: bright and exciting wines full of fresh fruit flavors and naturally crisp acidity.
