3rd Interviña Rodeo in Colchagua

The traditional “huaso” sector of Colchagua was once again host to an inter-winery rodeo. This year’s event–the 3rd of its kind–included the participation of 27 wineries and 35 pairs of rodeo riders.

The vastly popular Chilean rodeo differs from the well-known North American version in that it relies teamwork more than individual skill. A pair of riders, called a collera, works together to guide the young bull through the ring and earn points with their skill in placing the bull where they want it.

The Winners of this year’s competition were:

1st place: La Viña Luis Felipe Edwards: Claudio Serrano-Vallejo and his son Claudio Serrano-Becerra

2nd Place: Viña De Martino: Eduardo Jordan and Guillermo Mondaca

3rd Place: Viña Casa Silva: Maximiliano Silva and Luis Huenchul

4th Place: Viña Casa Silva: Mario Pablo Silva and Mauricio Mayol

Reining Techniques: Romane Soto (female division) and Felipe Ríos (male)

2009 Rodeo Queen: Francisca Vera, Viña Undurraga

Cueca Champions: Juan Celis and Lorena Oyarzun, Viña Doña Irma
