Ricardo Grellet named the Best Sommelier of Chile
Santiago de Chile, September 1, 2008.
Ricardo Grellet was named Chile’s Best Sommelier after two grueling days of competition. Twelve hopefuls competed in a series of tests of skill and knowledge on Sunday, August 31, and the four finalists were announced the following morning.
Macarena Lladser, Alex Ordenes, Héctor Riquelme (the previous title-holder), and Ricardo Grellet stepped forward to compete before the public and show their skills in tasting wines and spirits, menu correction, food & wine pairing, and service.
The final results were announced at the awards ceremony that evening: Ricardo Grellet, founder of the Association’s School of Sommeliers and twice runner-up in the competition, had earned his right to represent Chile in the Pan American competition to be held in Argentina next year as well as in the World Competition that will take place in Chile in 2010. Héctor Riquelme took second place and will join Ricardo in the Pan American competition.
